Most iconic British rock clubs, including the Cavern, were jazz clubs. Musicians always went to jazz clubs. Pop groups were put on at the Cavern at lunchtime to subsidise the jazz club. This is why Ringo and the other British drummers of note were so good. Because they LISTENED to the jazz drummers and we were able to ask questions. A legendary Liverpool drum teacher was Red Carter. everyone seemed to go to Red at some time or other.

He's great there is no doubt, however....my private lesson teacher at Berklee was on another level....FROM ANOTHER PLANET....of FUNK! He literally wrote a book on it. I'm speaking of none other, than the late (God rest his soul) GREAT (Total GENIUS of funk, Rick Consodine. I scored high in my audition and got a good ensemble rating as well. But when I first sat down next to Master Rick, and he started riffing some WILD odd time stuff and then sight reading some Vinnie licks that he had notated (with accents and all) and then plowed through them like water through a storm drain after a hurricane, my jaw fell wode open in amazement and awe and envy. I asked him to do it again but 4 times slower, and HE DID! Flawlessly. I could barely grasp the complex notation let alone follow it all as hecwas playong it. Granted, he practices ALL DAY LONG! He had an ENTIRE LIBRARY of James Brown videos andcre ordings that he was dissecting and figuring out. He was a technical wizard, and had SOUL in his bowl for sure! I was blessed to have Ed Uribe for my other private lesson percussion teacher and latin perc lab. It was fun. But NO WAY could I find the time to practice all the hea y stuff they were dropping on me weekly. I was just a spectator trying to soak itcall in for future times when I DID get the time to go back and actually try to learn all that difficult stuff.

Nicely explained.. was looking for good setting for looong time, and in the end I had almost the same on Axis A21 double pedals. Was good enough for ankle and doubles as well. Now I am on Kopyto and pretty much same thing... Heavier feel, almost max spring tension and light beaters with roughly 45°angle is perfect for heel up singles or just heel-toe doubles. Thanks a lot for this, I was always slowing down Your videos and zooming on Your pedal settings hahaha :)!
